Floridians, and anyone else for that matter, there is a Cryptoclearance gelding on the TROT web site. And Cryptoclearance horses are simply to die for.
Ontherightwicket, my fire-breathing dragon mare, is a Cryptoclearance. A few words about this magnificent sire, who passed away last year: A graded stakes winner at 3, 4, and 5, who broke his maiden at 2 years with a 12 length win at Saratoga, Cryptoclearance was by Fappiano, out of a Hoist the Flag mare, and was built like a tank, sound and strong with large bone and joints. Interesting but completely unrelated to his racing and stud careers – Cryptoclearance was a Pure Breeding Bay, with two bay genes from both parents, and could only produce bays, never chestnuts.
Wicket stalks the farm like a stallion, like Banner in My Friend Flicka, like the Black - sure, I’ll compare her to the most famous fictional horse of the century, because she’s that awesome - and she was perfectly sound, despite a grueling juvenile campaign that left her 2 year old champion in Maryland, and several more years on the allowance and graded stakes circuit in New York, Maryland, and Delaware, right up until her hoof injury two years ago. Right before that injury, I tacked her up and climbed aboard. I had dreams of eventing this powerful mare, and it was heart-breaking to find her broken and bleeding just a few days later, clearly never to be riding sound again. But horses WILL stick their legs through fences. It’s just something that they do. Something is nervously tapping away at that self-destruct button, always. . .
Anyway, it if isn’t already fairly obvious, I’m in love with ol’ Guac and I haven’t even met him. No – I’m not taking him! So don’t ask! But I don’t mind standing on the street corner and extolling the virtues of Cryptoclearance get all afternoon. Just look at the body type and enjoy! And if you really want to know what any of the TROT horses are like in person. . . just ask. I’m only an hour away and looking for a good excuse to go visit.
